I’ve been away for a week or so — Vacation/retreat.
Summer is a mix of chaos and joy. The chaos is the lack of structure in my work schedule and the joy is I’m warm and outdoors! The season flies by one moment we’re celebrating our traditional July 4th holiday, then blink and it is Labor Day. Because this season is so chaotic I usually plan my summer break on the third week of August. So that’s where I’ve been on vacation, not just physically away but a nice long mental break as well.
I went on a Yoga R and R retreat at Kripalu in western Massachusetts. What an amazing experience I won’t bore you with the details, but I came away a sense of calm and grounding that I haven’t experienced for a long time. So now when I’m upset or angry I just give in for 90 seconds then move on. Perhaps the biggest change was being comfortable with silence and now — I haven’t worn a watch in over a week, I’ve watched little to no television, and have only used my smart phone sparingly. However the biggest teching down was keeping my lap top off for a week — No video games, You Tube, Facebook and yes blogging. The result of all these changes, I sleep better, read more, notice more, listen better, appreciate more and for one week time slowed a little.
